Village Show - SATURDAY 18th SEPTEMBER 2021

We have been given the “go ahead” to hold our annual (!) Village Show in St Peter’s Rooms on SATURDAY 18th SEPTEMBER 2021. Two PDF Files of the schedules are attached. Please will you all consider taking part, and circulate this information to friends and anyone else who may be interested. This is an “open free-entry show” so anyone can take part. Our last Village Show in 2019 was great fun and a real success; we filled St Peter’s Rooms with colour and many excellent exhibits. Let us all try to do the same again this year, to help us get back to some degree of normality, and to use the show as a stage to advertise Ruddington Gardeners’ Association as an active group in our village. Other groups, such as U3A, will also be offered space to advertise their activities.

Garden Visit - Wednesday 25th August 2021

A garden visit has been booked for WEDNESDAY 25th AUGUST 2021 at “Riseholm”, 125 Shelford Road, Radcliffe on Trent NG12 1AZ from 5.45 pm onwards. This garden, beautifully designed and managed by Elaine and John Walker, is very colourful with an extensive range of perennials and other plants, including several exotics. The garden is listed in the National Gardens Scheme “Yellow Book”and is spectacular at the moment. Elaine has a nursery so there will be plenty of plants to purchase at very reasonable prices (considerably less than garden centre prices and all of excellent quality). There is parking on Cliff Drive (before the house), on Valley Road (after the house) or in the lay-by opposite.

The cost will be £6, including refreshments (the exact money would really help!).

Please let me know by 1.00pm on Tuesday 24th August if you are able to join the visit so that I can let Elaine know for catering purposes. You can e-mail me at mrdavey004@btinternet.com, by leaving a phone message on 0115 9841687, or by popping a note through the door at 200 Loughborough Road NG11 6NX

Evening Visit to the garden of Dottie and Tony Howse, Sutton Bonnington on Thursday 15th July

The first tentative, ‘post Covid’ event for 2021 was at the beautiful Garden of Dottie and Tony Howse (RGA Members).
It was a ‘balmy’, sunny evening and such a treat to catch up with fellow members after 17 months of isolation.

The garden itself looked splendid and the refreshments were delicious. We look forward to a return visit.
Many, many thanks to Dottie and Tony for their invitation, their kindness and for all the delights of their garden.

Welcome back from the RGA Committee

Dear Friends,

After 17 months of separation and uncertainty, Ruddington Gardeners are poised to welcome you all back in September 2021.

Our last monthly meeting was the AGM in February 2020 at The Hermitage. Now, with more than 80 potential members ‘on the books’, we will be meeting in St. Peter’s Church, on the newly carpeted area at the west end where there is more space and we can maintain sensible distancing.

There will be no membership fees payable until February 2022, but the usual £2 per member and £3 for visitors will be payable for each monthly meeting.

Members enjoyed a sociable ‘afternoon tea’ at 200 Loughborough Rd, last Saturday. Many thanks to both Linda and Mike Davey for hosting this event. The provisional programme to April 2022 will be forwarded to you all shortly. A big thank-you to Mike for his patience and hard work in drawing up the programme.

‘Watch this space’ for details of the Garden Visit on 25th August.

Keep safe everyone and good gardening.

RGA Committee.

The RGA have used the pause in activities due to the COVID 19 pandemic to review and update their website.

Old newsletters, event programmes and galleries have been archived, but can still be accessed using links on the web site footer.

We have a new News item, where we will keep you regularly updated on what is happening with the Association.

We hope you like this new updated look which will be kept fresh and up to date. So grab yourself a cup of tea, and we invite you to take a look and explore. We’d love to know what you think, so feel free to comment!
