25th January 2017 – “The Rose Family of Trees”

Graham Piearce is a retired forester with an extensive knowledge of trees in the wild and as ornamentals. His illustrated talk shows how trees of the rose family enhance our gardens, parks and landscape.

11th February 2017 – Visit to Hopton Hall, Derbyshire to see the Snowdrops

22nd February 2017 – Annual General Meeting followed by “Vines and Wines” with Free Wine Tasting!

Judd Bryer owns Bryer’s Coffee House, Delicatessen and Wine Bar in East Leake.  Judd will introduce us to some of his favourite wines, with the opportunity to taste free samples.

29th March 2017 – “EchoLocation Location; Finding the Bats of Nottinghamshire”

There are 12 species of bats in Nottinghamshire. In his illustrated talk, Michael Walker will inform us about where to find bats, their roosts and the ways in which these animals navigate and catch their prey.

1st April 2017 – RGA Plant Stall, St Peter’s Rooms

26th April 2017 – “Sweet Peas”

Sweet Peas are an essential feature of any English Garden. Andy Hubbuck will tell us how to grow the best flowers for cutting and showing.

17th May 2017 – Evening Visit to Devon Croft Nurseries, Newark

31st May 2017 – “Nottingham City Parks and Glasshouses”

Senior Park Ranger, John Simpson based at Woodthorpe Grange, oversees 136 parks in Nottinghamshire to ensure that these public places are maintained in excellent condition throughout the year. John will discuss the routine work involved in producing thousands of plants for displays and maintaining these local amenities.

28th June 2017 – “Climbing Plants”

Hilary Hutson is a Botanist who has lectured extensively to gardening and other groups. Her talk will focus on familiar and uncommon plants, and on the ways in which climbers interact with other plants. Not all climbers are tall plants!

 8th July 2017 – Visit to Easton Walled Gardens, Lincolnshire to see the Sweet Peas

29th July 2017 – Afternoon Tea, 200 Loughborough Road, Ruddington, 2.30 – 6.00pm

23rd August 2017 – Evening Village Walkabout followed by light refreshments

16th September 2017 – RGA Horticultural Show, St Peter’s Rooms

27th September 2017 – “Alpines: Growing and Showing”

Tony Lee has been growing and showing alpines for more than forty years. He will introduce us to methods of cultivation to obtain the best from these interesting plants.  Alpine plants will be for sale at the meeting.

25th October 2017 – “Shade and Semi-Shade Plants”

Colin Ward owns Swines’ Meadow Farm Nursery at Market Deeping near Peterborough which specialises in rare and unusual plants.  Colin will introduce us to some of his favourite and the best plants for cultivating in shady conditions. He will bring a selection of plants for sale.

29th November 2017 – “My Hide, My Patch”

Photographing wild life is not easy even in your own garden! Mick Freakley, a wild life photographer, will show us a selection of his stunning photos and inform members of the ways of capturing the best images.

Bring your photographs for display at the Christmas Social on 15th December – Theme – “Flowers”
